UTM link builder

Pick the ad platform, paste your page address and get a correctly tagged link with the platform's own dynamic parameters. Mistakes are shown before you copy.

Values in {…}, {{…}} or __…__ are macros: the ad platform replaces them when the ad is shown. Macro names can change, so check them in the platform's help before launch.

    Why tag every ad link

Without UTM tags, analytics shows most paid visits as “direct” or mixes them with organic traffic. A tagged link tells analytics which platform, campaign and ad brought the visitor.

Most mistakes are small: a space, a capital letter, “Facebook” in one link and “facebook” in another. Analytics treats them as different sources and the report splits. The builder checks these before you copy.

Ad platforms can fill in parts of the link for you with dynamic parameters, for example the campaign name or ad ID. The templates use the parameters that each platform documents. Platforms can rename them, so check the help of your platform once.

    Questions and answers

    Which parameters are required?

Source, medium and campaign are the usual minimum. Content and term are optional and help to tell ads or keywords apart.

Do I need UTM tags if I use auto-tagging?

Google Ads auto-tagging adds its own click ID. UTM tags are still useful when you use other analytics tools or compare platforms in one report.

    Is my link sent anywhere?

No. The link is built in your browser and is not sent to our server or stored.

Why does the QR code say to use fixed text?

A QR code is a picture of a fixed address. Macros such as {{campaign.name}} are replaced only by the ad platform, so a QR code with a macro would send people to a link with the macro text.
